My Most Anticiptated: Rodarte

One of the most innovative labels in fashion, Rodarte’s use of color and texture wows me every time.  I was so in love with their Fall 08 collection I couldn’t wait to see Spring.  While the ready to wear line is not exactly wearable, they didn’t disappoint with their ethereal aesthetic. As always, love the legwear! (photos from style.com

McQueen Samples the Queen for Fall RTW

Everyone was talking about Alexander McQueen's Fall Ready-to-Wear collection, the most stunning thing on the runways for fashion week (in my humble opinion). Having just returned from a 2-week trip to India myself, I was charmed by McQueen's maharaja-inspired looks (wish I had bought more pairs of the lovely slippers) but absolutely blown away by the ones taking cues from the royals. What's on my must have list? This outrageous Union Jack and Queen Elizabeth II print dress (left).

Devil is in the Details at Lanvin

Alber Elbaz rocked my world with Lanvin's Fall collection composed mainly of layers of ribbon. It's all in the details with this collection dominated by blacks and neutrals. Statement accessories were used for impact, including miles of heavy metal jewels tied to necks with lengths of black silk ribbon, and will you check out the Medieval torture cuffs! (Tip: cuffs worn on both arms, outside the gloves as shown below right, dress up plain gloves for a quick outfit update. You don't have to go over the top either. Hammered silver, colorful leather, wood bangles will all look great!).

Dark & Lovely

Neons and sherberts may be the new black for Spring, but let's face it, most of us lean toward dark colors, especially for Fall. It's not that we're boring, it's quite simply a time-saver. A few well-chosen accessories and our black dress or grey suit looks chic and current. The Fall RTW shows were heavy on darks, but polished and structurally beautiful. Here are some pieces from one of my favorite Fall collections, Bottega Veneta (shown in Milan):

Paris Hilton in Beth Church

Another celeb spotted sporting an Unsung designer. This time it's Paris Hilton in one of Beth Church's amazing one-of-a-kind necklaces. It looks like even celebrity stylists (with all their clients' money to spend) are getting sick of seeing the same old stuff out there, and turning more and more to the fresher looks by emerging designers.

Unsung has been carrying Beth Church from the start. Her pieces are immaculately constructed and more often than not involve vintage elements. Our favorites have always been the pieces with a rocker edge. Get yours here.

And she was even voted Best Designer Jewelry in Phoenix Magazine.

Marc Misses

I just returned from a 2 week trip to India so, having missed all of NY Fashion Week, will just make a few tiny comments. To many people, Marc Jacobs can do no wrong. True, the guy is super talented and has a larger workload than most designers (2 labels of his own plus Louis Vuitton), but I'm going there anyway. After hopping off a 15 hour flight and rushing home to catch up on all I'd missed, I deserve to know: WTF? Someone please tell me: Did I miss something?

Sharon Stone in Angelrox at Sundance

Sharon Stone wore our favorite Angelrox Denim Blazer to the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her new movie, The Year of Getting To Know Us. We love the versatility of this blazer; the cuffs and collar can be worn different ways and the waist is adjustable. The sweetest thing? A pair of angel wings are embroidered on the back! It comes in black on black or antique gold, which Sharon's wearing. Get your Angelrox here.

It's the End of the Affair

After two years in our beloved little showroom in an alley, we're moving operations to New York so we can expand Unsung online. This is a bittersweet moment for us. We want to fulfill our vision for Unsung and take it to the next level. But we obviously love our shop, our neighborhood, the customers who come see us from near and far... and we will miss you all more than words can say.

We want to thank all of our loyal DC customers for supporting the shop and keeping us entertained along the way. Helping you accessorize and put together outfits for first dates, interviews, black tie galas, destination weddings, seeing your ex at a party... We really had a blast.

We hope you won't be a stranger now that we're online only. The pink doors may be closing and you may not see us every Saturday, but we'll still be Unsung. You can count on us to continue to bring you the best in indie fashion as well as the highest level of customer service (meaning, call us if you're not sure something will fit!). We hope to hear from you.

Now, you didn't think we'd leave without throwing a party, did you? Check out the events tab on our blog for details, and get yourselves over here and give us a kiss goodbye!
xxox,
