McQueen Samples the Queen for Fall RTW

Everyone was talking about Alexander McQueen's Fall Ready-to-Wear collection, the most stunning thing on the runways for fashion week (in my humble opinion). Having just returned from a 2-week trip to India myself, I was charmed by McQueen's maharaja-inspired looks (wish I had bought more pairs of the lovely slippers) but absolutely blown away by the ones taking cues from the royals. What's on my must have list? This outrageous Union Jack and Queen Elizabeth II print dress (left).

Devil is in the Details at Lanvin

Alber Elbaz rocked my world with Lanvin's Fall collection composed mainly of layers of ribbon. It's all in the details with this collection dominated by blacks and neutrals. Statement accessories were used for impact, including miles of heavy metal jewels tied to necks with lengths of black silk ribbon, and will you check out the Medieval torture cuffs! (Tip: cuffs worn on both arms, outside the gloves as shown below right, dress up plain gloves for a quick outfit update. You don't have to go over the top either. Hammered silver, colorful leather, wood bangles will all look great!).

Dark & Lovely

Neons and sherberts may be the new black for Spring, but let's face it, most of us lean toward dark colors, especially for Fall. It's not that we're boring, it's quite simply a time-saver. A few well-chosen accessories and our black dress or grey suit looks chic and current. The Fall RTW shows were heavy on darks, but polished and structurally beautiful. Here are some pieces from one of my favorite Fall collections, Bottega Veneta (shown in Milan):

Marc Misses

I just returned from a 2 week trip to India so, having missed all of NY Fashion Week, will just make a few tiny comments. To many people, Marc Jacobs can do no wrong. True, the guy is super talented and has a larger workload than most designers (2 labels of his own plus Louis Vuitton), but I'm going there anyway. After hopping off a 15 hour flight and rushing home to catch up on all I'd missed, I deserve to know: WTF? Someone please tell me: Did I miss something?
